Washington Nationals phenom Bryce Harper is having such a good season that not only are his tape-measure shots getting huge notice, but so are his answers to the media’s questions about them.
Harper’s home run Tuesday night in Toronto against the Blue Jays was measured at 438 feet, but hit a sign next to the restaurant level at Rogers Centre.
It might’ve traveled farther if, first, he hadn’t been reaching a bit for a breaking ball and, second, it hadn’t been stopped by the stadium.
Then, he was asked after the game if—because the legal drinking age in Canada would allow him to—he was going to go get a celebratory beer. The 19-year-old’s response, according to The Score:
“I’m not answering that. That’s a clown question, bro.”
The last five words of his answer quickly went viral, adding to his legend. In fact, they’ve already inspired a T-shirt.

It is upon us. Baseball season at last. All you fans out there can be sure it’ll be a good one. If your team is below that .500 mark, or you just need a laugh, I’m sure there will be a good amount of happenings down in Miami. The new logo, new ballpark, new manager, star studded Marlins are sure to make a huge splash in the baseball world (no fishing pun intended.) With Ozzie Guillen running the show, and Jose Reyes bumping the ego that is Hanley Ramirez to third, plus the goofy closer Heath Bell in that mix, well you can be sure that the only fireworks in Miami won’t be some part of a cheesy Thursday night gimmick to draw a crowd. I have the Marlins winning the A.L. east. Where do you see them?
Today, the good ol’ USA shocked the sports world with a victory over the Italian national team during an international football match. This was the first time in 82 years that the US has beaten Italy, a usual soccer powerhouse. Usually the US gets pushed around by these international powers, but in the 55th minute, lightning struck. The US had the ball in the penalty box, and when a pass reached Clint Dempsey, he let a shot go, and it rolled past the Italian keeper.
“Initially, I was going to stay where I was and have him lay it back to me,” Dempsey said. “I saw the guy was covering. So I tried to move to my right to try get open so he could play me the ball. He did a great job of holding it up, playing me, and I just tried to hit it low and hard, far post, and it went in.”
Of the win over Italy, Dempsey had this to say; “I’d like to think that we’re closing the gap and hopefully one day we can do something special.” This win just proves that the US of A isn’t the laughing stock that it used to be.
Alright folks, it’s almost upon us, baseball season! If you’re anything like me, you love baseball. So, let’s see if you agree with my projections.
AL EAST WINNER: Boston Red Sox
AL WEST WINNER: L.A. Angels
AL CENTRAL WINNER: Detroit Tigers
AL WILDCARD WINNER: New York Yankees
It’s impossible to deny that the Angels will be a dominating force this season, with the acquisition of Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson. The Tigers also picked up Prince Fielder, which will make them better than they already are. The Sox have a good rotation, and a great lineup, and recently signed David Ortiz to a one year deal, so if they stay healthy they will take the east. The Yankees too are not to be denied a playoff spot, but it looks as though for the first time in a few years that the Rangers will not make the playoffs. On to the NL:
NL EAST WINNER: Miami Marlins
NL WEST WINNER: Arizona Diamondbacks
NL CENTRAL WINNER: Milwaukee Brewers
NL WILD CARD WINNER: Philadelphia Phillies
New team, new ballpark, young talent, and the signing of a few big names. What’s not to like about Miami winning the NL East? Nothing. As for Arizona, they too are stacked with young talent and will beat out the Giants and Dodgers. Even though the Brew-Crew lost their star, they still have a lot of good players in a league that only holds real competition in St. Louis. However, the Phillies too cannot be dened a playoff spot, with a powerful rotation and good bullpen.
Of course, it’s still only February, and spring training hasn’t even started, but it is coming fast, and I’m already polishing off my cleats and taking swings in the yard. Obviously there’s nothing to really tell just yet, but that is how i see the season going! Share your thoughts.
The Superbowl; for some people, it’s the beer, camaraderie, and awesome plays which keeps people watching . Others watch it for the commercials. Big-time companies will compete with one another for the most attractive or funniest commercial out there for people to watch and advertise their product.
In Michigan, Peter Hoekstra is running against Debbie Stabenow for the U.S Senate. During one of the Superbowl commercials, Hoekstra played a very controversial ad attacking Debbie, using racial stereotypes, and saying she was working with the Chinese in order for the U.S to borrow and spend money, and give jobs to the Chinese. Needless to say, she hasn’t responded in kind. Looking at the video itself…says it all.
Politics are certainly getting out of hand lately….we all need to calm down.
