The Most Astounding Fact (Neil DeGrasse Tyson) [VIDEO]

Before I start, I just want to mention that this is my 200th post on this blog.  I am so amazed, happy and thankful for the support I have been receiving with this blog.  It’s been almost 2 years since I created this, and I have just seen positive things come from it.  Follow us, by clicking the link above (if you have a WordPress account), or subscribe to us via email.  Every little thing counts, and just a reminder.  This is just the beginning!

I wanted to include this video on my 200th post, because this video is about life.  Not just human life, but life in general.  It is about the universe, the organisms that make up the universe, and everything else that we may not see or believe.  I thought this video was truly astonishing, and was beautifully made.

Astrophysicist Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson was asked by a reader of TIME magazine, “What is the most astounding fact you can share with us about the Universe?” This is his answer.

Heidi Klum & Seal Getting Divorced

Just days after Seal confirmed he and wife Heidi Klum were separating after nearly seven years of marriage, the singer has already begun speaking out about the split. Over the past 24 hours, Seal began making the TV rounds to promote upcoming album, Soul 2, and to ease our fears about a nasty public split. “Just because you decide to separate, I don’t think you all of a sudden stop loving each other,” he said during the taping for an upcoming episode of The Tavis Smiley Show. “I don’t think you all of a sudden stop being friends.”

HIV/AIDS Soon To Become History

With the profile of HIV-AIDS undergoing transformation from a life-threatening emergency to a manageable chronic infection, the World Health Organisation (WHO) urged South-East Asian countries to focus on eliminating the infection, particularly among children, by 2015.

“We are coming out of a transformative decade for the HIV-AIDS epidemic. With innovative treatment regimens, improved health services as well as political commitment, HIV-positive people who are on treatment are living longer and better lives,” said Samlee Plianbangchang, WHO regional director for South-East Asia.

“We must learn from our experiences and work to ensure that no child born gets infected with HIV,” said Plianbangchang on the eve of the World AIDS Day Dec 1.

Between 2001 and 2010, the number of people newly infected with HIV declined sharply by 34 percent in South-East Asia that includes India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal, among others.

According to the WHO, with the expansion of facilities providing testing and counselling services, approximately 16 million people have been tested for HIV across the region.

The number of people living with HIV and receiving anti-retroviral treatment (ART) also increased 10-fold, indicating that more people were getting access to the treatment mode launched in 1996 in India.

According to the WHO Progress Report on HIV/AIDS in South-East Asia 2011, an estimated 3.5 million people were living with HIV/AIDS in 2010, including 140,000 children. Women accounted for 37 percent of this population.

The epidemic continues to be on the rise in Indonesia, although the number of new infections is showing a downward trend in India, Myanmar, Nepal and Thailand.

The report put out another picture of services in the region, saying: “A majority of people living with HIV are unaware of their HIV status. Less than one out of five pregnant women have access to HIV testing and counseling; two out of three HIV-infected pregnant women do not receive anti-viral prophylaxis.”

“Only a third of all people with advanced HIV infection are receiving anti-retroviral treatment as per the latest WHO criteria. However, more than four out of five people who have started treatment are alive and on treatment 12 months after the start of therapy,” it added.

Kardashian Kollection Linked To ‘Slave Labor’?

The Kardashian’s are making headlines, not for their hit reality TV show, but for a slave labor investigation.

TMZ confirms that a human rights group is investigating claims that workers in China as young as 16 are working in squalid conditions.

The workers produce merchandise for the K-Dash by Kardashian label, the Kris Jenner Kollection and ShoeDazzle according to a Star Magazine investigation.

The Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights has confirmed with TMZ that there are claims that the Kardashians’ products are produced in factories that smell of raw sewage, with temperatures over 100 degrees.

The workers also reportedly make $1 an hour and work up to 84 hours a week.

Kris Jenner, the matron of the Kardashian clan, has released a statement on the report saying,

“As far as I know the factories that are used to manufacture the Kardashian clothing and shoes have nothing terrible going on at all and the factories are very well policed and meet factory standards.”

Why The Chinese Shouldn’t Drive

This is solid proof as to why the Chinese should not be given driver’s licenses.  Not to be racist in any way, but the Chinese are among some of the worst drivers out there.  Watch the video and I think you’ll agree.

Patrice O’Neal Passes Away At The Youthful Age Of 41

The world of comedy lost one of their legends today when Patrice O’Neal passed away at the youthful age of 41. Patrice had the skillful ability to be a prick and get under your skin, yet at the end of his hilarious rant, he would have you laughing hysterically.

Patrice’s stand-up résumé included appearing on “The Apollo Comedy Hour,” Opie and Anthony’s Traveling Virus Comedy Tour, a half hour “One Night Stand” special for HBO, and in February of this year O’Neal finally received his own hour-long comedy special, “Elephant in the Room,” on Comedy Central.

Patrice also starred on several hit television shows such as VH1’s “Web Junk 20,” and the Comedy Central show, “Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn.” He was also a staple and occasional co-host of the “Opie and Anthony Show.” His mainstream success included roles on “Arrested Development,” “Chappelle Show” and “The Office,” plus he was one of the comedians on the Charlie Sheen Roast.

Selena Gomez Is Going To Be A Big Sister!

Guess who’s going to be a big sister!

Oh, crap.  I gave it away in the title and the picture.

Anyway, up until now Selena Gomez has been an only child.  Recently on Twitter, Selena Gomez was given permission by her mother that she could announce that she would soon be a big sister.

Don’t get too excited though, because we are not sure what gender the baby is, so you will have to stay tuned for that.  Also, the baby isn’t Selena’s full blood sibling.  Yes, Selena’s mom is giving birth, but she is giving birth to Selena’s step-dad’s child.

That is still great news for Selena, because whether it’s her full-blood sibling, half sibling, etc., Selena will still be a big sister.

Woman Gets Cement Injections In Butt

The suspect – who police say was born a man and identifies as a woman – apparently performed the surgery on herself, and investigators say she may have victimized others. Oneal Ron Morris, 30, was arrested Friday after a year on the lam and has been charged with practicing medicine without a license with serious bodily injury.

The victim, who is not being named due to medical privacy laws, paid $700 for a series of injections in May 2010. She was referred to Morris by a friend.

The victim is still recovering from the surgery and says it’s too painful to work. She also has racked up numerous medical bills.

Authorities believe there are other victims who may be too embarrassed to come forward.
